These woodpeckers visit my garden in Spring and Summer. They’re shy birds and any slight movement makes them fly off. They have a penchant for peanuts which tempts them out from the cover of the trees, especially when they’re raising hungry chicks.
Hmm, not holding my breath on Spring yet, today was the first full day of sunshine for 3 months but there’s a chill in the air tonight. Catkins are on the trees though and daffodils are coming out so it might not be too far away. How’s life in Newfoundland?
I didn’t know until you said Dianne but they don’t live in Australia or NZ. I have no idea why? Here we have the spotted kind like this one and also a green version that’s very handsome. I love that nature is so diverse
I have woodpeckers that seek me out in my garden. They are very interesting to photograph.

Other than the noise, they’re better neighbors than Jays too. I’m guessing you’re moving into spring now, right?
